batgurl's CMFFA Rec List
Feb. 8th, 2009 11:25 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Well, severity_softly was tossing around the idea of posting recs from the CMFFAs in her journal, and like a regular thief, I am stealing the idea. Now that the cmfanficawards are over, and the last of the banners have (finally) been distributed, I can post my recommendations without fear of bias or influencing unsuspecting people!
So, here's a list (in no particular order) of fics and authors that, if you didn't read them for the CMFFAs, you should definitely read them now.
Author Rec's
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Special mentions:
Haunted Minds (FRT) - Reid-centric crossover with Supernatural. If you're not already reading this, you should be. I've only ever seen 1 episode of SPN, but this fic is so terrific that it's not even an issue. Broken Reid clinging for his sanity is a heartwrenching image.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Special mentions:
Love Me, Love Me, Love Me (Say You Do) (R, Morgan/Reid SLASH) - I was really hoping this one would win for best slash romance. Like the rest of her fics, it knocks the wind out of you with how true and raw and sad and beautiful it is. You feel everything Reid and Morgan feel.
Eligent - An ff.net writer (wait - where are you going? Come back!) . But seriously, she's amazing. I know this should technically only be rec'ing fics specifically nominated in the CMFFAs, but I worked my tail off for the last 3 1/2 months and I'll rec whatever I damn well please ;) I think she's got eight CM fics all together, and I would bet good money that if they'd all been written in 2008, every last one of them would've been nominated. Instead, her two from the past year got the nod: 'The Fairview Diaries' and 'Boxed Set' (which claimed two awards). Known for writing great Reid angst that doesn't go overboard (which, I will admit, some Reid fics do), of special note are her casefics. Like Buffy's, the cases are worth reading, but in a different way - they're actually quite fascinating in and of themselves. And if you enjoy reading the team in all their 'in-character' glory, her fics are for you.
Special Mention:
Hard to pick a favourite, but I'd probably go with 'What's In a Name?'. Interesting case, great Hotch/Reid interaction, and Reid gets to be a bit of a hero, even as he's questioning himself.
Specific Fics to Read:
'Nature of the Game' by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
'Spiders' by
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
'She Says' by
![[info]](https://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif)
'Incentive' by JMcK (T)- Yes, another ff.net writer: It was my first love, darn it - I'm not letting go without a fight ;) This is a great piece if you're in the mood for some great gen team-interaction/team-in-peril. As much as I (a rabid Reid fan) love fics that centre on a specific character, it's always nice to come upon a piece that puts the whole team on equal footing. Everyone has a little bit of say in this piece, and they're all delightfully in-character. And the 'in-peril' part never goes to the ridiculous level, which is a huge plus in my books. And if you feel like sniffing around a bit, she's got some great JJ/team-fics hidden on her profile.
I could probably go on forever, because there were so many great fics and authors nominated in this competition, but I'll stop there. I would've mentioned

AHAHAHAHA-
*headdesks & iz ded*
Seriously. You are too nice and GENEROUS, and I thank you heartily and heart you thankily for it. BUTOMGBEMEENERIT'LLMAKEMEFEELBETTER.

Date: 2009-02-09 05:55 am (UTC)But seriously, I meant every word of it (and more), because your fics really do inspire me to an insane degree.

Date: 2009-02-09 06:07 am (UTC)In any case, I thank you again! You can keep the fics, even! And I'll send you every CM-related word I have saved on my hard drive, free of charge & with my full blessing to do with what you will!
Also, now might be the time to mention that I kinda sorta instituted a full-on lock down of my fic journal until I figure out how I wanna handle my Epic Fic Fuck-Up. I'm guessing I should reverse this if people are going to trust you enough to willingly subject themselves to my thievery & bad. *headdesk*
You know, I don't know how Reid has the energy for all the self-flagellating he does. It's so much easier when other people BEAT YOU UP on your behalf. Plus, he's so little.
OH RIGHT ALSO ALSO PLZ REMEMBER MY OFFER OF MAKE UPPAGE. THIS WOULD APPLY TO FAN MIXES & FICS. (Because, you see, if I'm writing a prompt YOU gave me, it makes it much harder to STEAL! Or at least, fuck, I hope so. *headdesk* Just to, you know, whatever.)
*zips*

...Please excuse this interruption - batgurl has lost all ability for coherent speech at the awesomeness of this prospect....
ahem.
I noticed the lockdown was back in effect (and that you also had a new fic that is awesome and lovely and I'm going to be commenting on it as soon as I get the feeling in my wrists back (typing the winner's list 4x does not bode well for my carpal tunnel lol)). And OMGEGOSFGJST YOU SO SHOULD REVERSE IT! I mean...no pressure or anything, do what you want, but I'm a firm supporter of the 'bring out the fuggy fic' brigade. :)
And you really don't have to make anything up to me, yanno. I told you it's part of the territory with running a comp.
....though...if you were so inclined....could i has some Reid and Prentiss plz?? *scurries back into the corner*

Date: 2009-02-09 06:27 am (UTC)Ahem.
Reid and Prentiss... like het Reid/Prentiss? Or Reid & Prentiss like gen happy happy yay friends? Or angsty friends or angsty het?
I WILL WRITE WHATEVER YOU WANT. I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING. I'D EVEN WRITE REID/FARM ANIMAL IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANTED. Although I sorta hope not. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TYPE THE WORDS.
Dood. I totally would have done all that typing for you. I don't know why LJ gives you so much grief, but if ever you need help with formatting a list like that again, I offer up my typing services. 12,600 keystrokes per hour at your disposal here -- not the greatest, but not too bad. :)
CONSIDER THE FIC JOURNAL OPEN FOR BUSINESS. I mean, the fic will probably stay locked -- UNLESS YOU DON'T WANT IT TO BE -- but I'll at least open it up for more poor, misguided people to be added. (And I'm totally serious about sending you every fic I have outlined and/or half written. None of them are any GOOD, but there you go.)
♥!

Date: 2009-02-09 06:33 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm not sure where I acquired the LJ curse, but I literally cannot make a post work on the first try. This fic rec took me 6 tries and I still can't get severity's name to show up right lol.

Date: 2009-02-09 06:39 am (UTC)But first! Any particular theme you'd prefer for this? I can make anything angsty or happy. Hotch leaned, Elle said bye bye -- if you'd like Prentiss to do anything in particular, just say the word. :)
Also, YOU IZ DEAD OVER WHAT? I need more direction! Unlock the fics? Send you the half-written ones? I AM EXTRA SLOW 2NITE. BEAR WITH ME. :D

Date: 2009-02-09 06:44 am (UTC)YOU IZ DEAD OVER WHAT?
*facepalm* See, this is why I need communication skillz.
Both, actually, but I know how uncomfortable you are opening ur fic to the public (or even small bunches of people), so I wouldn't feel right asking you to unlock the fics. But I'd love to read what you have!

Date: 2009-02-09 06:52 am (UTC)As for the half-finished fics of DOOOOOOOM, for starters I have the beginnings of the Morgan/Reid sequel here (filtered just for you, since it was already posted for me to add to as the fic is finished).
I can either post the rest of them in a big long post @ fuggy, also filtered just for you. Or I can throw 'em in a zip & email 'em. Your pick. :D

Date: 2009-02-09 06:55 am (UTC)And whichever one is easiest for you to do - don't stress urself out over it. :)

Date: 2009-02-09 06:57 am (UTC)Although, be warned that everything I'll be posting, IS SO EFFING BAD AND UNPOLISHED, which you might have expected, as I've mentioned that it's half-finished, but I'm sooper neurotic & a little anal retentive so I'm gonna say it anyway, just to get it out of the way.
Shutting up now. :D

Date: 2009-02-09 07:06 am (UTC)Dude, you should see my half-finished fics. Frickin incoherent is what it is. You got nothing to worry about. ;)
And on that note, I'm going to read your M/R fic (*squee*) and head off to bed (I have to be up for class in 6 hrs - why do I keep doing this to myself lol?)

Date: 2009-02-09 06:02 am (UTC)how many authors either make his character completely bland, or villify him beyond belief (no comments from you, Shine, lol).
I have no idea what you're talking about *shifty eyes* I am saying nothing.

Cookies are the very definition of victory. But really, as long as we stay off Jerry Springer, it's a win in my books.
