Well, severity_softly  was tossing around the idea of posting recs from the CMFFAs in her journal, and like a regular thief, I am stealing the idea. Now that the cmfanficawards are over, and the last of the banners have (finally) been distributed, I can post my recommendations without fear of bias or influencing unsuspecting people!

So, here's a list (in no particular order) of fics and authors that, if you didn't read them for the CMFFAs, you should definitely read them now.

Author Rec's

[livejournal.com profile] buffyaddict13  - Okay, she cleaned up at the awards, but with very good reason. She's got a serious way with words (there've been countless sentences and phrases in her fics that I've wanted to scribble down on paper and keep with me always), and her casefics are of a very rare breed - they're actually interesting to read. Really, I almost always skim over the case aspects in fics, but hers are so-often woven with other aspects of the story (or even the characters themselves) that skipping so much as a word would be a crime against fiction.

Special mentions:
Haunted Minds (FRT)  - Reid-centric crossover with Supernatural. If you're not already reading this, you should be. I've only ever seen 1 episode of SPN, but this fic is so terrific that it's not even an issue. Broken Reid clinging for his sanity is a heartwrenching image.

[livejournal.com profile] fuggybear - Another heavy-hitter at the awards, but again - with good reason. Her 'Five' series is inspiring and haunting. There's just something so...real...about her writing that kicks you in the gut with every sentence (in a very very good way). The characters are more themselves than ever. And she's recently started in to M/R slash fics, which can only be a good thing. Unfortunately, she f-locks her fics, so you have to be added to her filters to read, but she was kind enough to unlock them for the duration of the competition *hearts her*

Special mentions:
Love Me, Love Me, Love Me (Say You Do) (R, Morgan/Reid SLASH) - I was really hoping this one would win for best slash romance. Like the rest of her fics, it knocks the wind out of you with how true and raw and sad and beautiful it is. You feel everything Reid and Morgan feel.

Eligent - An ff.net writer (wait - where are you going? Come back!)  . But seriously, she's amazing. I know this should technically only be rec'ing fics specifically nominated in the CMFFAs, but I worked my tail off for the last 3 1/2 months and I'll rec whatever I damn well please ;) I think she's got eight CM fics all together, and I would bet good money that if they'd all been written in 2008, every last one of them would've been nominated. Instead, her two from the past year got the nod: 'The Fairview Diaries' and 'Boxed Set' (which claimed two awards). Known for writing great Reid angst that doesn't go overboard (which, I will admit, some Reid fics do), of special note are her casefics. Like Buffy's, the cases are worth reading, but in a different way - they're actually quite fascinating in and of themselves. And if you enjoy reading the team in all their 'in-character' glory, her fics are for you.

Special Mention:
Hard to pick a favourite, but I'd probably go with 'What's In a Name?'. Interesting case, great Hotch/Reid interaction, and Reid gets to be a bit of a hero, even as he's questioning himself.

Specific Fics to Read:
'Nature of the Game' by [livejournal.com profile] shinealightonme (FRT, gen) -  A great oneshot that twists at your mind a bit. Nice for those who like a bit of the Emily vs. Elle dynamic (what would they have thought of each other?). I have no doubt that if we'd had a 'Best AU' category this year, this fic would've won.

'Spiders' by [livejournal.com profile] tejachord (FRAO, SLASH, WARNINGS@ SITE) - I'm actually really surprised this one didn't place. It's had a good following, and the chapters have been captivating. Still a WIP, I'm afraid, but definitely worth picking up. Great Hotch/Reid stuff, but definitely full of teh angst. The warnings aren't just for show.

'She Says' by [info]gilligankane (K, FEMSLASH) - I'm generally not a femslash reader. It's nothing really against the genre, so much as it just doesn't interest me. I'm usually even less-inclined to read a fic from Will's POV, on account of how many authors either make his character completely bland, or villify him beyond belief (no comments from you, Shine, lol). But this? Is the exception. I think it gets JJ in a very real way, and Emily too, but more than that is how human it makes Will. And it's a short, beautifully tragic piece. The last line just sticks with you (those are my favourite kinds of fics).

'Incentive' by JMcK (T)- Yes, another ff.net writer: It was my first love, darn it - I'm not letting go without a fight ;) This is a great piece if you're in the mood for some great gen team-interaction/team-in-peril. As much as I (a rabid Reid fan) love fics that centre on a specific character, it's always nice to come upon a piece that puts the whole team on equal footing. Everyone has a little bit of say in this piece, and they're all delightfully in-character. And the 'in-peril' part never goes to the ridiculous level, which is a huge plus in my books. And if you feel like sniffing around a bit, she's got some great JJ/team-fics hidden on her profile.

I could probably go on forever, because there were so many great fics and authors nominated in this competition, but I'll stop there. I would've mentioned [livejournal.com profile] innerslytherin and [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly 's works, but I think the 10 wins between them indicates that they're sufficiently well-known and in no need of my recs lol.

OMG I'M TRYING TO MAKE UP FOR THE THIEVING. YOU PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE ALREADY KNOWN THAT I'M AN ASSHOLE. *headdesk*

Ahem.

Reid and Prentiss... like het Reid/Prentiss? Or Reid & Prentiss like gen happy happy yay friends? Or angsty friends or angsty het?

I WILL WRITE WHATEVER YOU WANT. I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING. I'D EVEN WRITE REID/FARM ANIMAL IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANTED. Although I sorta hope not. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TYPE THE WORDS.

Dood. I totally would have done all that typing for you. I don't know why LJ gives you so much grief, but if ever you need help with formatting a list like that again, I offer up my typing services. 12,600 keystrokes per hour at your disposal here -- not the greatest, but not too bad. :)

CONSIDER THE FIC JOURNAL OPEN FOR BUSINESS. I mean, the fic will probably stay locked -- UNLESS YOU DON'T WANT IT TO BE -- but I'll at least open it up for more poor, misguided people to be added. (And I'm totally serious about sending you every fic I have outlined and/or half written. None of them are any GOOD, but there you go.)

♥!

Reid, Prentiss, gen, angsty or happy -- GOT IT. I've been meaning to do a "Five Times" fic for them. MOVING IT TO THE FRONT OF THE LIST & STARTING NOW.

But first! Any particular theme you'd prefer for this? I can make anything angsty or happy. Hotch leaned, Elle said bye bye -- if you'd like Prentiss to do anything in particular, just say the word. :)

Also, YOU IZ DEAD OVER WHAT? I need more direction! Unlock the fics? Send you the half-written ones? I AM EXTRA SLOW 2NITE. BEAR WITH ME. :D

No problem. I shall commune with the water spirits & see what theme they give me. :D

As for the half-finished fics of DOOOOOOOM, for starters I have the beginnings of the Morgan/Reid sequel here (filtered just for you, since it was already posted for me to add to as the fic is finished).

I can either post the rest of them in a big long post @ fuggy, also filtered just for you. Or I can throw 'em in a zip & email 'em. Your pick. :D

A filtered post for you it is, then. I shall endeavor to get it finished before bedding in about, oh, four or five hours. HEHEHEHE! *happyhappyhappy wigglewigglewiggle*

Although, be warned that everything I'll be posting, IS SO EFFING BAD AND UNPOLISHED, which you might have expected, as I've mentioned that it's half-finished, but I'm sooper neurotic & a little anal retentive so I'm gonna say it anyway, just to get it out of the way.

Shutting up now. :D
