Fics (multi-chapter) Started or Continued:
Does 'still on my computer' count? No? Then, none unless you count my Reid-on-drugs miniseries.
Total:
10
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
Considering I posted 18 fics in 2007, and only 10 in 2008, I wrote considerably less than I thought I would. Especially considering the fact that I have a couple hundred fic ideas on my computer waiting to be written. I had a very pathetic year (but I'm hoping 2009 will be better).
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008?
I never expected to write Rossi into one of my fics. I definitely thought I'd be leaving him out in the cold and continuing to ignore his existence. Granted, it was only small parts in two fics, but the fact that I included him (and not in any sort of condescending light) is a miracle in itself.
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
Moments, definitely. I still don't know how I managed to parse my words down enough to write 100 drabble/vignettes, but it was a lot of fun to write - so much freedom in being able to write anything about a character and knowing you can take it all back in the very next drabble. I think I made Reid insane in six of them, and it was different every time. :)
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
Moments got the most reviews on ff.net, but Fracture was pretty popular on LJ.
Story most underappreciated by the universe?
I guess Parents. All positive feedback, but little feedback in general. I'm not sure why I keep feeling the need to write my 'young Reid' fics, but I've got another two in production nonetheless. :P
Story that could have been better?
I know Beaches was supposed to be a lot better than it turned out. I got the idea for it when I was at the beach the summer before last, and I'd written most of it in my head, but by the time I got home I'd forgotten whole portions of it. It ended up a lot shorter than I'd thought it would be. I'm certain there was supposed to be an amazing character revelation in there, but I can't remember it for the life of me.
Sexiest story?
...I guess the closes thing would be Breakfast. It sort of hints at sex. No, wait - Hotel. I definitely recall a one-liner about Emily and Hotch getting it on in a haunted mansion.
Most fun story?
Hotel. I was ten kinds of nuts the day that popped into my head. After weeks of stressing out over the Oct 31st deadline to post my first ever Halloween-themed fic (which went through fourty revisions and at least sixteen different plots and concepts), I ended up writing and posting a random crackfic all in one day (which I never do, because I'm completely self-conscious and anal about my writing and like at least a week to look it over first). I still can't believe I actually put it up.
Story with single sweetest moment?
Talk, possibly. People seemed to like the Gideon/Reid mentor/protege themes. Not sure I can pinpoint a specific moment from it, but reactions seemed generally aww-worthy.
The story that made you cry?
Someone else's fic? I find it hard to write really convincing sad stuff, myself, but there was an unfinished fic on my computer about Reid's mom dying that made my eyes sting a bit. Then my harddrive crashed and I was crying for a completely different reason. That fic no longer exists, unfortunately.
Hardest story to write?
Talk. Hands down, no contest. I was an idiot to start referring to some of my fics as part of a 'series'. Now people expect the next part, and the part after that, and the part after that... It took me seven months to finish Talk, and the next one is looking to take just as long. Seriously? I'm checking my front walk for torches and pitchforks.
Easiest story to write?
Hotel sort of just happened all in one day (which has never happened to me before). It wasn't a masterpiece, but it was nice to have the words come so easily for once.
Most overdue story?
Outsides has been due for six months, so I suppose it's predecessor, Talk, is still in the lead. Talk, as previously mentioned, was seven months overdue. At some point, people are just going to stop caring, right?
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I tried to...And failed to... I wanted to write and finish my first ever horror/supernatural fic, complete with character death (I've done character death before, but this was something different). The writing style was pretty hard to work with and maintain, however, and there's a gaping plot hole in the center where I don't know what's supposed to happen, so the fic remains unfinished. I suppose, I learned I'm a big fat procrastinator who panics when she has a set date to write something.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I WILL FINISH MY REID FF100 COLLECTION! It's been almost two years, and I've only written 26/100. Barring that, I will do better than last year and at least try and meet my production goal from 2007.
