I'm gonna look at the pattern next, but would you mind sharing your tips when you did the costumes? Also, are the patterns from the ravelry site worth purchasing? p.s. unemployment also got me into crocheting, but nothing hurts if it's to produce art like this! esp ones so cute like yours! :D
