2008, We hardly knew ye (and didn't really want to)...
I don't often post things of a bloggish nature on this site, preferring instead to dedicate my Journal to productive fan-works. Aside from my anal-ish dislike of posting anything close to personal on the internet, I just don't see why anyone else would care to read 500 words about my boring life.
For you, 2008, I make an exception.
Yes, you, year gone past. You're finally in my rearview mirror, and not a moment too soon. You plagued me with repeated illnesses, all-night work sessions, a crappy manual labour job, overt sexism, self-doubt, career issues, family problems, the death of a beloved family cat, and the longest bout of writer's block I've had since I re-entered the writing world four years ago. I lost friends, gained enemies, and spent months feeling depressingly like an intruder in my own home. There were tornados, blackouts, snowstorms, high fevers, vindictive muses, bitter fights, laptop crashes, and entire weeks of non-productive days.
Now, not to sound ungrateful - I'm glad we all made it through. I'm glad the world is still in one piece (for the most part). I'm glad the American election is finally over (I still can't believe how much coverage we got of that here in Canada - I wasn't even aware we'd had our own election, but I heard all about Palin and Obama). I'm glad my family is still here, especially after a close call that thankfully remained just that. I'm glad that we have another year to look forward to, and that we can always strive to do better.
But, 2008 can bite me.
So, here's to you, 2009! May you be better than your predecessor!! *fingers crossed*
